Update:

The Dallas Cowboys kicked off their mandatory minicamp this week at The Star in Frisco. There was a lot of chatter about edge rusher Micah Parsons, who’s awaiting a contract extension with the team. Many times, players who struggle to come to a deal with their teams will choose to sit out entirely, but Parsons is trying to set an example and he made a surprising move.

Parsons returns to the field, puts pressure on Dallas

Despite still not agreeing to terms on a contract extension, Parsons reported to minicamp. While he didn’t participate in individual drills at first, he did join for pass rush drills in the second open practice, including a notable one-on-one against teammate Sam Williams.

Cowboys’ new head coach Brian Schottenheimer is trying to set the tone for a new culture in Dallas by encouraging the kind of leadership and accountability that Parsons is displaying with this act.

Parsons also had a lengthy conversation with owner Jerry Jones about the ongoing contract discussions. He acknowledged that the decision is still in Jones’ hands, but is hopeful a deal will be done soon.

“I’m still hanging tight. I understand it’s up to [Jones],” said Parsons. “He gives the green light on everything. So hopefully something is done by next month.”

Parsons’ presence at minicamp shows that he’s doing his part, and it puts pressure on the team’s leaders to finalize a deal.
