Update:

Winning the lottery once is a miracle; winning it four times is just greedy. I jest, but David Serkin might just be the luckiest man alive. The Canadian cancer survivor picked the right numbers in August and November of last year, as well as in May of this year.

Serkin’s super-soirée with the lottery began in 1982; over time, it became more of a lighthearted ritual than a serious pursuit. When his first jackpot came over a decade ago, he pocketed $250,000.

Most of us would probably stop there. Not David. In August 2024, he won $500,000 in a LOTTO MAX draw, and just three months later, in November 2024, he hit the $1 million Gold Ball jackpot in LOTTO 6/49.

Serkin’s wins “astronomical”

Did he stop? No, he did not. Serkin won yet again in May 2025—another $1 million prize—after buying a ticket on impulse at a gas station.

In total, Serkin has pocketed around $2.5 million in prize money. The Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) said the odds of this happening are around 1 in 33.3 million.

I know the odds are astronomical, [and] I don’t think it’ll happen again,” Serkin said in a press bulletin issued recently by the Western Canada Lottery Corporation. “But I still like buying tickets.”

You check your ticket, and if you win – you’re happy,” Serkin added. “If you don’t, you can always try again. I’m a cancer survivor and I’m retired, so I’m just grateful for all of it. I took my wife to Hawaii with the last win, and we had a great time. Now, we’re going to Newfoundland.”
